Looming

2024

Looming is a material-led sculptural work created in collaboration with artist Anne Marie Deacy during the Sím residency programme in Iceland. The piece consists of two wooden trestles with suspended threads of silica and basalt stretched between them—mineral fibres that catch and shape light, forming a delicate illusion of structure through tension.

Referencing the ancient warp-weighted loom—once grounded by stone—the sculpture inverts tradition: the stones are absent, yet their presence is embedded within the threads themselves. These fibres, drawn from the earth, carry both physical weight and symbolic resonance.
