Dowse

2024

Dowse is a material-led sculptural work, developed in collaboration with artist Anne Marie Deacy, that investigates subtle forces, balance, and transformation through elemental materials.

A slender 3mm threaded brass rod emerges from a wooden base, delicately tipped with a fragment of pyrite. The natural weight of the mineral causes the rod to arc and sway, its slow, mesmeric movement evoking a quiet sensitivity to gravity and unseen energies. Dowse becomes a kind of elemental instrument—part divining tool, part kinetic sculpture—drawing attention to the tension between structure and surrender, stillness and motion.
